Do I get paid to be a preceptor through NPHub?
Yes! We believe your time and mentorship deserve to be recognized. We offer compensation for every rotation you take on. Plus, we show our appreciation with thank-you goodies throughout the year!

How does the compensation work?
Our student-based compensation model is designed to be fair and transparent. You'll receive payment for each clinical rotation based on the actual hours you spend teaching. Payments are sent within six weeks of the rotation start date, and you can choose between direct deposit or check payment methods. As you take on more students, you become eligible for additional bonuses. We also offer a referral program where you can earn $100-$150 for each new preceptor you bring to our network. Our Preceptor Recruiters will walk you through the complete compensation structure during your onboarding call.

What kind of students will I be precepting?
Our students are Nurse Practitioners in training, many of whom are experienced RNs with years of bedside experience. You’ll have the opportunity to review their student profiles before agreeing to precept, so you can choose the right fit for you and your practice.

Can I choose my students and workload?
Yes! You have complete control over your precepting experience. When students request to work with you, you'll see their detailed profiles, including their specialty, requested hours, and background. You can accept or decline any rotation request based on what works for you. Whether you want to precept one NP student at a time or multiple students the choice is yours. There's no minimum commitment - you can precept as much or as little as fits your schedule and practice.

How much paperwork is involved?
Very little — and all online. We’ve simplified the entire process to eliminate the hassle. From start to finish, we guide you and the student through everything electronically, so you don’t have to chase down documents or navigate school bureaucracy.

What paperwork do I need to handle?
We've made documentation incredibly simple. All you need to do is sign the initial preceptor agreement and electronically sign student documents through our mobile app - that's genuinely it. Our team handles everything else, including university paperwork, facility agreements, and all other documentation. No need to print, scan, mail, or chase down signatures. We complete all forms and simply notify you when your e-signature is needed.

How do I know the student will be a good fit for my clinic?
We don’t believe in “random assignments.” You’ll get access to student profiles, resumes, and can select the right student based on your clinical focus and their experience. Many preceptors even end up hiring their students after graduation!

How long does the process take?
It varies slightly depending on the university, but we handle everything from paperwork to approvals so it moves as quickly and smoothly as possible. We’ll keep you in the loop the entire time. If you ever have any questions, your dedicated Preceptor Account Manager will be there to assist!

What if I’ve never precepted before?
No problem! We’re here to support you every step of the way. Our team walks you through the process, and we’re always available if you have questions. Many of our current preceptors started with no prior experience and go on to precept students for many years.

What are the minimum requirements to become a preceptor?
To join our network, you'll need at least one year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner, a current and unrestricted state license, up-to-date national certification, and an active clinical practice.

Why should I work with NPHub instead of finding students on my own?
Because we make it easy. No back-and-forth with schools, no guesswork on student readiness, and no uncompensated work. Just a streamlined experience, support from our team, and students who are excited to learn from you. Not to mention – you’ll also have a dedicated Preceptor Account Manager to support you!

Can I refer other NPs to become preceptors too?
Absolutely — and we’ll thank you with a bonus! You’ll receive $100–$150 for every preceptor you refer who precepts a student. Just share your referral code, and we’ll take it from there.
