With the COVID-19 outbreak we know it’s getting even harder to find a preceptor anywhere in the US. We’ve been reaching out to our preceptors to get an update on their current work status so we can keep helping you complete your rotations during this crisis, and some of them are still working!
Today we’re focusing on Florida, one of the states from where we get the most rotation requests. Here is a list of 6 preceptors available right now in Florida:
Florida Preceptor in Saint Petersburg
Primary Care (all ages) specialty with an out-patient setting. Preceptor is an FNP and sees about 20-30 patients a day. It’s a high paced, very busy clinic that sees scheduled patients and many walk-ins. They see women for women’s health pap smears, mammograms, birth control education, and vaginal diseases; and men for many annual physicals, sprains, fractures, flu shots, and common colds/flu. When they see youth they are ages 7+ and typically are coming in for sports team physicals, flu shots, and other smaller issues that have arisen at school.
The rotation offers evening and weekend hours, and consecutive days available for traveling students. Also, it’s near public transportation (bus)!

Florida Preceptor in Tampa
Primary Care (adult only) specialty with an out-patient setting. Preceptor is an FNP seeing patients in the range of 18 – 100 years. Management and treatment of chronic conditions, education given. Morning sessions also include walk-in urgent care patients.
The rotation offers one hour lunch break from 3:00PM -4:00PM, evening session 4:00PM – 9:00PM and weekend hours.

Florida Preceptor in Maitland
Primary Care (all ages) specialty with an outpatient setting. Preceptor is an FNP providing care to patients of all ages – birth to death. In depth charting and medical history dive in to ensure that the medication management portion is correct. In depth conversations and education with youth about STI’s and adults about various acute and chronic illnesses. Large patient population of wound care and treatment. Students can also observe mammograms, pap smears and UTI engagement with the women’s health portion of the facility.
The rotation offers consecutive days available for traveling students.

Florida Preceptor in Miami (FEMALE STUDENTS ONLY)
Women’s Health (OB+GYN) specialty with an out-patient setting. Preceptor is an FNP who sees a high volume of overall healthy woman. Pap smears, mammograms, vaginal order issues, vaginal fungi issues, thyroid testing and assessments, and STI/pregnancy prevention and education. They specialize in hormone replacement therapy and offer a variety of treatment options for patients. They handle medication management and the referral if a patient needs to go to a specialist for issues they don’t treat.
The site is near public transit (bus).

Florida Preceptor in Cape Canaveral
Primary Care (adult only) specialty with an out-patient setting. Preceptor is an FNP who really loves to teach and work with students. Sees about 16-20 patients a day and does pap smears, well-women exams, in-office procedures, reading of EKGs. Patients usually range from ages 14+. Students will also get to experience a lot of chronic disease management. Very small amounts of walk-in patients a day, but the majority of patients are internal medicine. Very hands-on experience! Preceptor also teaches students the importance of billing and coding accurately for their patients.

Florida Preceptor in Dunedin
NP working in Family Practice for a very reputable doctor’s private practice. Has been precepting on and off for 10 years for the University of St. Francis including teaching online courses. Loves to teach and says patients even love having students around. Will allow students to do assessments and work with EMR-very hands on. Also does pap smears and basic screening tests for women’s health and labs.
